Cycling holidays in the Rosental

Cycling & e-biking in the Rosental

The Drava flows along the valley floor, and the Drava Cycle Path R1 runs beside it – almost flat, with the Karawanks as a backdrop. Lake Faak, Lake Wörthersee, Italy and Slovenia are all within reach by bike. And in the evening our indoor pool is waiting.

Drava, lake and sauna – what a cycling day feels like

Schlatten with its church

In the morning

Down into the Drava valley

From Schlatten you roll down via St. Jakob to the Drava. That is where the Drava Cycle Path R1 begins: flat, well signposted and mostly away from traffic – westwards to Lake Faak, eastwards to Ferlach.

Lake Faak with the Mittagskogel, seen from the water

At midday

A cool dip in Lake Faak

Lake Faak is about 10 km from us. Pack your swimwear in your pannier, and after the loop around the Faak moor, jump into the turquoise water.

Lakes & swimming around the Rosental

Morning: garden trees reflected in the water

In the evening

Uphill home – and into the sauna

From the Drava valley the last stretch climbs a little to us in Schlatten – easy going on an e-bike. Then a few lengths in the indoor pool, tired legs in the sauna, and the day is perfect.

Cycling season

Cycling from Easter to the end of September

Spring

While there is still snow up high, the valley is already green: the best time for the flat Drava Cycle Path. Afterwards the indoor pool warms you up.

Summer

Set off early, jump into a lake at midday, ride back in the afternoon: that way even the heat is no problem.

September

Pleasant temperatures, quieter paths and clear views – for many the best time for cycling.

Good to know

  • To Italy and Slovenia: bring your ID.
  • The way home from the Drava valley is uphill – keep a little battery in reserve.
  • No bike of your own? Ask us – we will tell you where to hire bikes and e-bikes nearby.
  • Pack swimwear in your pannier – the next lake is never far.
